Mauna Kea soil, water group meets Thursday

The Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District meets from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Waimea Service Center, 67-1185 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite 148.

Anyone who requires an accommodation, auxiliary aid or service, including sign language, interpreter or large print, to attend the meeting should call Margaret Fowler at 885-6602, ext. 100.

Kupuna singles meeting for picnic

Students serving lunches Friday

The second-year students in the Culinary Arts Department at Hawaii Community College West Hawaii are serving lunch Friday, based on fine dining/classical cuisine dishes.

Lunches are served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations will be taken beginning at 8 a.m. Monday the week of the luncheon. Call 322-4850. Changes or cancellations should be made at least 48 hours ahead of time. Tips are welcome. The schedule and pricing are subject to change.

Kealakehe Project Grad meets Tuesday

Project Grad is fast approaching and the Kealakehe Project Grad Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Kealakehe High School conference room on the north side of the school library. All interested parents of students in any grade, relatives and community supporters who want to help with the 2012 event scheduled for May 19 are encouraged to attend.

Kealakehe Project Grad is an annual event providing a safe location for graduating seniors of Kealakehe High School and West Hawaii Explorations Academy to celebrate with their friends and enjoy an all-night, alcohol- and drug-free event. Since the inception of Project Grad 10 years ago, Kealakehe High School has not had any traffic-related fatalities on graduation night.

Snorkel day for people with disabilities set

People of all ages, abilities and their ohana and invited to a free snorkel day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16 at Kahaluu Beach Park’s large pavilion. Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish to share during lunch.

Certified professional volunteers will help assist people of all ages in the water using adaptive equipment provided by the Hawaii Country Department of Parks and Recreation.

The event is sponsored by Deep and Beyond through the University of the Nations.

Group cancer retreat slated next weekend

Kokolulu Farm and Cancer Retreats in Hawi is offering a group cancer retreat of hope and empowerment from March 11 to 16. There is no charge for Big Island residents.

Culinary book group meets Wednesday

Kona Stories cooking maven Tiare Tolzmann is hosting a monthly culinary book group from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The group shares food and recipes related to a monthly theme.

The theme for March is vegetarian. Bring a favorite dish to share with copies of the recipe and join the discussion.

The group is free and open to everyone.

Kona Krew members to hear about real estate

Lovette Llantos, real estate agent with MacArthur & Co. Sotheby’s International Realty, will speak on “Decoding Real Estate Terms in the Post Recession Market and Understand the Real Estate Lingo” during the next meeting of the Kona Krew chapter of Business Network International

The meeting is from 7:45 to 9:14 a.m. Wednesday s at Island Naturals on Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona. Visitors are welcome. There is no fee to attend this event.
