Green fees at Hilo Muni increase
For the first time in nine years, green fees at Hilo Municipal Golf Course have increased.
On Thursday, the weekday green fee for Hawaii residents increased $3 per round to $15. On weekends and holidays, resident golfers must pay $20 a round, up from the present $15.
Monthly cards allowing unlimited play will cost $25 for junior golfers; $35 for seniors at least 60 years old, University of Hawaii students and the disabled; and $55 for the general public. An additional fee of $1 per round for weekday play and $3 per round for weekend and holiday play will be assessed card holders.
Nonresident rates will increase to $34 per round for weekday play and $45 per round for weekend and holiday use.
“Despite greater operational efficiency, we simply are unable to continue to absorb rising costs that are beyond the department’s control,” Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Director Bob Fitzgerald said.
The department is reviewing all of its user fees in an effort to control costs and move toward financial self-sufficiency, Fitzgerald said.
Golf course fees were last raised in 2003, he said.
