John Murphy

John “Jack” David Murphy, 87, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 24, 1924, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was a senior executive for IBM in Tokyo for Asian procurement and manufacturing, Marine Corps staff sergeant during World War II and member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 1 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for a Mass. Interment will take place at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

He is survived by nieces, Susan King, of Franklin, Mass., Kathleen Procario, of Mahopac, N.Y., Deborah Murphy, of Ridgefield, Conn.

Allen Yapp

Allen “Butch” “Brown” Kawelo Yapp, 73, of Hilo, died Feb. 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1938, in Honolulu, he was a retired heavy machine operator for Hawaiian Dredging Co., former member of Haili Congregational Church, member of New Hope Christian Fellowship, Hilo and Lehua Senior Bowling League.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. March 1 at New Hope Christian Fellowship for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. March 2 at the church for an 11 a.m. service. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Luncheon to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Louis James DeRego Sr., 95, of Honokaa, died Jan. 12 at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born Nov. 27, 1916, in Haina, he worked for C. Brewer Sugar Co. in Paauhau, and was a retired supervisor from Hamakua Sugar Co.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. March 2 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by son, Louis DeRego Jr., of Honokaa; daughter, Wendylee Pomeroy, of Phoenix; brothers, Alec Botelho, Amos Botelho, of Honokaa; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Takashi “Kandi” Kashimoto, 92, of Hilo, died Feb. 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kukuihaele, he was a retired journeyman carpenter, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan and Hoyukai.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 2 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers and monetary donations be omitted.

Semisi N. Lopeti, 36, of Hilo, died Feb. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Tonga, he was a self-employed mason.

Patrick “Puna” Punaikeonaona Keliihoomalu, 44, of Kaimu, Kalapana, died Feb. 15 at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 25, 1967, in Hilo, he was a musician and member of Star of the Sea Painted Church (Hoku O Kekai) in Kalapana.

Friends may call at 6:30 p.m. March 2 at the family residence in Kaimu, Kalapana, for an all-night visitation. Friends may call at noon March 3 at the residence for another all-night visitation. Lorreta Elaine Mokihana Pratt Victor, 90, of Keaau, died Feb. 16 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 26, 1921, in Honolulu, she was a retired cook at Zippys-Waimalu and member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses-Hilo and Aiea Congregations.

Friends may call at 1:30 p.m. March 3 at the Kingdom Hall 2, 2055 Kamehameha IV Road, Honolulu for a 2:30 p.m. service. Family requests formal attire be worn and no flowers.
