Magazine honors isle organizations

Hawaii Island was well represented at the recent 2012 Hawaii Business magazine SmallBiz Success Awards. The Big Isle was the sole neighbor island boasting award finalists.

The Kohala Center was tapped for Best Small Non-Profit and the statewide Martin & MacArthur earned a Lifetime Achievement award.

Ke Ola magazine was chosen as one of three finalists for Best New Business while Kona Red was one of three finalists for Best New Innovation.

Big Island hotels honored by magazine

The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and its sister property, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, have been named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s “Top 500 Hotels Worldwide” 2012 rankings.

Of the 16 hotels from Hawaii that made the list, Hapuna ranked sixth and Mauna Kea seventh. On the Big Island, they ranked second and third, just a shade behind Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, which was No. 1 in the state.

Kaneko, Mitchell receive promotions

Steven K. Kaneko has been promoted from assistant vice president and relief branch manager to vice president and branch manager of Bank of Hawaii’s Kona branch in the Hawaii Branch Division. He oversees the Kona branch’s sales and operations staff and assists customers with banking needs, including loans and deposits.

Kaneko joined Bank of Hawaii in 2001 as a business banking officer. He holds a bachelor in business administration degree from the University of Michigan. Kaneko is the treasurer of the Lions Club of Kona, board member of the Konawaena Foundation, member of the Konawaena High School Community Council and past president of the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Brenda G. Mitchell has been promoted from assistant vice president and executive loan officer to vice president and executive loan officer in the private banking-residential loan services department. She is responsible for servicing high-net-worth clients and ensuring their banking needs are met, which include mortgage lending, wealth management and estate planning.

Mitchell joined Bank of Hawaii in 2002 as a residential loan officer. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in English/business from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.

Lanihau appoints Craven to two positions

Britt Craven has been appointed vice president, properties at Lanihau Properties LLC. Craven joined Lanihau Properties Jan. 1. His responsibilities will include directing day-to-day property management and leasing responsibilities of the company, as well as a variety of other land management responsibilities involving the company’s agricultural lands and development projects.

Craven also was appointed vice president of Palani Ranch Co., an affiliate of Lanihau Properties, which operates a cattle ranch in mauka Kona.
