Pearl Leomomi Haasenritter Tengan, 84, of Hilo, died Feb. 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was the retired chief executive officer for Pacific Mac Nut Corp. and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keaukaha Ward, its Relief Society organization and Alu Like Kupuna Senior Program.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hilo Stake Center (located on Kilauea Avenue) for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests aloha attire be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Hilo, Hui Malama Ola Na Oiwi (Hilo) or American Cancer Society (East Hawaii).

She is survived by sons, Ethan (Sheila) Tengan, of Keaau, Felix Tengan, Arnold (Linda) Tengan, Vernon (Irene) Tengan and Michael (Charlotte) Tengan, all of Hilo; daughters, Tania (Patrick) Kavanagh, of Alaska, Marietta Tengan Ivonne (Michael) Everett and Kihei Tengan, all of Hilo, Casey Wilder and Donna (Jack) Scaff, both of Honolulu, Annette (Stephen) Chapman, of Paauilo, Josephine Starkey, of Molokai; sister, Ethel (Tom) Haasenritter Fragas, of Kailua, Oahu; brother, Moses (Joyce) Haasenritter, of Nebraska; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Leandra Afaga

Leandra Dugay Afaga, 91, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 11 at her residence. Born Feb. 27, 1920, in the Philippines, she was a housekeeper at the James Luke Hotel and the former Kona Hilton Hotel and member of Kona Senior Citizens Club, Fil-Am Club and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Feb. 24 at the family’s residence at 76-6179 Pakalana Road for a 6 p.m. wake service. Friends may also call at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona for a noon Mass. Burial follows at Kona Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by sons, Mariano (Pacita) Afaga, Miguel (Dolores) Afaga and Sebastian (Eufracia) Afaga, both of Kailua-Kona, Manuel (Juliana) Afaga and Dominador (Catalina) Afaga, both of Waikoloa ; daughters, Maria (Roman) Afaga, Rodola (Lucretio) Tangonan and Susana (Sunil) Arora, all of Kailua-Kona; 34 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose Pangelinan Perez, 83, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 9 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Oct. 12, 1928, in Agana, Guam, he was a furniture bedding carpenter, a banquet porter at the former Kona Lagoon Hotel, maintenance manager at Kona Plaza and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Kailua-Kona Senior Citizens group.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa for a graveside inurnment. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by sons, Melvyn Perez, of Kailua-Kona, Efren Perez, of Pacifica, Calif., Roland (Jeanette) Perez, of San Francisco, Renee Perez, of Morgan Hill, Calif., Raymond (Wendy) Perez, of Honolulu; daughters, Beth Perez-Poepoe and Janie (John) Quinn, both of Kailua-Kona, Sandra (Orlando) Morales, of San Mateo, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nimai Johnson

Nimai Lila Dasa Johnson, 29, of Opihikao, died Feb. 13 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a farmer, a heavy equipment operator and musician.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at 13-491 Kamaili Road (Opihikao Family Farm) for a celebration of life ceremony.

He is survived by parents, Gregory and Cathy Johnson, of Opihikao; brothers, Goursundar Johnson, Nityananda Johnson and Braja (Saradha) Johnson, all of Opihikao, Varaha Johnson, of Pahoa; paternal grandmother, Jacqueline Johnson, of California; a niece; a nephew; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Stanley Berliner

Stanley David Berliner, 87, of Holualoa, died Feb. 15 at his residence. Born Nov. 27, 1924, in New York City, he was a physician specializing in general and hernia surgery, a professor of surgery, educator and author of many surgical texts and journals.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by daughters, Anne Berliner, of Kailua-Kona, Addie Berliner, of Leilani Estates, Eve Berliner, of Honaunau; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Hajime Dochin

Hajime Dochin, 80, of Waimea, died Feb. 9 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born on June 21, 1931, in Waimea, he was an Army veteran of the Korean and post-Korean War eras.

No services are planned. Inurnment will be at the Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to North Hawaii Community Hospital, P.O. Box 2799, Kamuela, HI 96743 or Hawaii Division, American Cancer Society, 2370 Nuuanu Ave., Honolulu, HI 96817.

Beatrice Lau

Beatrice Kam Lin Loo Lau, 95, of Hilo, died Feb. 15 at home. Born in Honolulu, she taught at Laupahoehoe School and various schools in Hilo, she served on the University of Hawaii at Hilo Chancellor’s Advisory Board, was a member of the University-County Forward Together Committee and Commission on Libraries, helped conceive, organize and chair the Taste of Asia events in Hilo and was co-owner of Hilo Dry Goods and specific Kamehameha Avenue buildings in Hilo.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Garth Dull) Lau, of Carson City, Nev., Karen (Paul) Sullivan, of Kailua, Oahu, Lisa (Tim) Staley, of Seattle; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
