Connors earns Most Outstanding Player

Honokaa senior midfielder Robert Connors didn’t need to score a lot to be viewed as an outstanding player at the Division II state soccer tournament.

Connors scored one goal in the Dragon’s 5-1 victory over Mid-Pacific in the semifinals. In the championship match, he didn’t score, but he provided steady ball-handling and controlled the tempo in Honokaa’s 1-0 win over Kapaa.

In a vote by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association staff, in consultation with coaches, Connors was named the Most Outstanding Player on Monday.

The list of players named to the team is on Page 3B.

Last season, Connors was named the BIIF Player of the Year in the West division, despite not leading the league in goals scored. This season, the league played a round-robin format.

No BIIF players were named to the Division I all-tournament team.
