The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island’s east-facing shores through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials predict waves could range in height from 6 feet to 8 feet or higher along the affected coastlines.
“Strong trade winds, both near and upwind of the Hawaiian Islands, will bring rough surf to exposed east-facing shores through Tuesday,” according to a message posted 3:35 p.m. Sunday.
A high surf advisory means high surf could affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion, stated the National Weather Service.
