A two-car crash that snapped a utility pole near Ege Store in Honaunau snarled traffic for hours Friday afternoon.
A woman, whose age and place of residence were unavailable as of press time, was transported to Kona Community Hospital following the 2 p.m. crash, said Captain Cook Fire Station Capt. Sam Lee. Her condition was not known.
The woman had apparently been driving southbound on Highway 11 when she collided with another vehicle before striking the utility pole, causing it to snap in half leaving power and telephone lines on the roadway, he said. The occupants of the other vehicle declined medical attention.
The downed lines resulted in the full closure of the highway for about an hour, according to police. One lane was reopened around 3:30 p.m.
