Kanuha confusion

When did he graduate from Kealakehe?

The article, “Kanuha announces intent to run for County Council District 7,” raises a question in my mind.

It reports “He attended Kahakai Elementary School and Kealakehe Intermediate and High School and graduated from the University of San Diego in 2002 with a B.A. in political science and a minor in business administration.”

Since the first graduating class from Kealakehe High School was 2001, it implies he was able to earn a B.A. degree from the University of San Diego in one year.

A nice addition to the paper

We have really enjoyed the beautiful photos of Island Life that have appeared on Page 2A of West Hawaii Today recently. We especially liked the photo of the java sparrows on Jan. 31.

These birds appear daily at a bird feeder we provide outside our kitchen window and we wondered what kind of bird they are.

Thank you for featuring these lovely local scenes every day. They are a breath of fresh air.

Swing Zone closure

Hope it will be reopened in future

Thanks to the informative article in today’s paper (Feb. 12) about the closing of the Swing Zone by Carolyn Lucas-Zenk. Several of my friends and I are some of the snowbirds mentioned in the article who enjoy the putt putt course (it is more than just a “miniature” golf course, which is prevalent on the mainland). Most of us are here from December through April and love playing putt putt golf as often as possible.

I am very hopeful, as are many others, that a way will be found to reopen it in the near future.
