Nomination papers available in Kona, Hilo
Nomination papers are available for anyone interested in running for elected office for the 2012 elections, according to the Office of the County Clerk, Elections Division. Nomination papers are available at Office of the County Clerk, Elections Division, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Building B, second floor, in Kailua-Kona and at the office at 25 Aupuni St., No. 1502, Hilo.
Papers are available in Kona on Wednesdays by appointment only. Call the Elections Division at 961-8277 to schedule an appointment.
The deadline to file nomination papers is June 5.
Lions car show
slated for Saturday
The Island Fever car show is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Waikoloa Elementary School. The Waikoloa Lions Club expects more than 100 of the island’s classic, vintage, hot rod and custom cars and trucks to be on display. The vehicles will be judged and awarded trophies in several categories.
The show will display some special vehicles, including a dragster jet car and a former NASCAR race car. There will be fun for the entire family with prizes, drawings and T-shirts for sale. The event will feature live music, quality craft booths and food.
This is a fundraiser for the Waikoloa Lions Club, and proceeds will fund the many community events and programs that it supports.

Tibetan Buddhist
lama visiting Saturday
Paleaku Botanical Peace Gardens welcomes everyone to an evening with Zangpo Rinpoche. Teachings and empowerments will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Tea will be served.
Tulku Orgyen Zangpo Rinpoche, a reincarnate Tibetan Buddhist lama will confer two ritual blessings to overcome both mental and physical obstacles, cleanse negative karma and create auspicious circumstances for a long life. People of all spiritual traditions are invited to attend.
Rinpoche is a reincarnated spiritual teacher of the Tibetan Nyingma Buddhist tradition. He spent most of his life in the presence of one of the greatest Buddhist teachers of this age, His Holiness Jigmed Puntsok. Rinpoche currently resides in California and teaches throughout the United States and abroad, sharing the Buddhist way of awakening through his organization, the Compassion Fellowship.
Paleaku Botanical Peace Gardens is located at 83-5401 Painted Church Road in Captain Cook. The extensive gardens are open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Ballroom dancers
plan Sunday event
The Kona Ballroom Dance Club invites the public to come and dance with members from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Club in Kailua-Kona. Attendees are also invited to come dressed for Mardi Gras, or not.
Many styles of dance are planned with an accent on bachata along with cha-cha, waltz, swing, hustle, salsa, fox trot and merengue. No partner is needed.
The nonprofit club’s mission is to keep Kona dancing.
The public is invited and will be asked for a small donation. Ongoing lessons and dance workshops are planned.
