Katherine Lara

Katherine “Nana” Kauhane Lara, 92, of Waimea and formerly of Honolulu, died Jan. 6 at Hale Hoola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired lead foreman for the former Dole Cannery on Oahu, former waitress at Willows Restaurant in Pearl City, Oahu, and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waipahu, Oahu.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waipahu, Oahu for a 9:30 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at 11 a.m. at Mililani Memorial Park. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Edelbert Lara; son, James (Mae) Lara; daughters, Nancy Cabral, Alma (Benjamin) Delos Santos, Viola Lara; brother, Benny Fuentes; sisters, Mary Willis, Mildred Ibous; 26 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tracy Joyner

Tracy Kristine Smith Joyner, 34, of Loris, S.C., and formerly of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 20 at Loris Health Care System. Born March 1, 1977, in Kealakekua, she was a counter representative at the first Jack in the Box in Kailua-Kona and a cashier at Walmart in Loris, S.C.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona for an 11 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by companion, Donald Mobley, of Loris, S.C.; son, Tyree Joyner, of Loris, S.C.; daughters, Aaliyah Smith, of Kailua-Kona, Larajah Joyner, Nasriye Mobley and Cera Mobley, all of Loris, S.C.; parents, Blue (Erlinda) Smith Sr., of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Ronald Smith Jr., of Dana Point, Calif., Travis Smith, of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Crystal Smith, of Wilmington, Calif., Jolene (Roderick) Malone, of Carson City, Calif., Kimberly (Ahmed) Ouedrago, of Wilmington, Calif., Shannon Smith, of Long Beach, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Connie (John) Crudele, of Kailua-Kona; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Estrillia Torrijos

Estrillia “Ester” Torrijos, 81, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 18 at Queens Medical Center. She was born in Kona and retired as a pantry worker at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Feb. 11 at St. John’s Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by her daughters Gloria Fleming, Sylvia (Robert) Kawamoto, Deanna (Robert) Lopes, Victoria (Chauncey) Wong Yuen; sons Ricardo (Eunice) Torrijos Jr., Dominic Keoki (Nicole Smith) Torrijos; sisters Josephine Barney, Carmen Comer; brother Joseph C. Palacat Sr.; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Tavares Jr.

Richard “Ricky” John Tavares Jr., 70, of Waimea, died Jan. 28 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Bom Aug. 16,1941, in Hilo, he was a cowboy for Parker Ranch and a former heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by wife, Jenny Tavares, of Waimea; sons, Richard (Shirley) Tavares III, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Daniel (Christy) Brodbeek Tavares, of Captain Cook; hanai son, Steven Cruz, of Mountain View; daughters, Lee (Robert Kealoha) Tavares, of Ainaloa, Leean (Jerry Ontiveros) Tavares, of North Kohala; brother, Moses (Amy) Tavares Sr., of Tacoma, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
