Auditors also looked at patient scheduling practices, radiopharmaceutical prescriptions and written directions to patients receiving radioactive material.

Hospital officials said nuclear medicine is a type of medical imaging using small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or to treat a variety of diseases, including cancer, heart disease and gastrointestinal, endocrine, skeletal and neurological disorders.
