The Crusade for Affordable Housing

John Stevens, principal of Westpro Holdings, defines the crusade for affordable housing as the opportunity to supply home ownership to people presently unable to afford market-rate housing. Stevens promotes his blueprint of affordable housing products to families earning 120 to 140 percent of the median income in 2005.

For Westpro, its approach to being part of the housing solution is the driving force. Its project, Seascape, Kona’s first 100 percent affordable condominium, is Westpro Holding’s commitment to putting this blueprint into action.

Seascape is comprised of 108 condominium homes adjacent to Lokahi Makai in Kona. Seascape’s 2-bedroom, 2-bath units feature an open kitchen, a great room, two full baths and a lanai large enough to entertain. Seascape earned the Energy Star rating set by the Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Energy, keeping utility costs down.

Planned amenities at Seascape include barbecue areas, a community pavilion and the area immediately surrounding each complex will be fully landscaped.

Seascape is being assembled in Kona by Westpro’s Aloha Aina Homes, the new FAST (Factory Assembled Steel) Tract housing factory. Each individual condominium unit will be delivered to the project in modular pieces and finished on-site by Avalon Hawaii Construction.

Prices for Seascape start at $284,600. Qualified buyers will be selected through a lottery system, to launch soon and will be regulated under the guidelines of the County of Hawaii’s Office of Housing and Community Development.

Last year, the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce awarded John Stevens and Westpro Holdings with its Pualu Award for Business Innovation in recognition of Westpro’s commitment to improve the lives of West Hawaii residents by building affordable housing.

Westpro Holdings’ current projects include Lokahi Makai, a 191-unit residential development in Kona and the plantation-style homes of Discovery Harbour in Ka’u, the only modular home project in Hawaii and now Seascape. Westpro is also building19 affordable homes within its Lokahi Makai project.

Westpro Holdings related companies include Akamai Realty LLC, , Aloha Aina Homes LLC, Avalon Hawaii Construction LLC, D-Bar Ranch, LLC, Sonny Ventures, LLC, Paradise Landscaping LLC, Discovery Harbour Realty, LLC and Discovery Harbour Development LLC.
