KTA’s S’port Up! campaign continues

Two weeks remain for the fourth annual S’port Up! program with Hilo and Waiakea High Schools and Honokaa High and Intermediate School leading the way with the most “points” donated by KTA Super Store Shoppers.

S’port Up! began Feb. 17 and will be completed March 30. Shoppers can visit any KTA Super Store or Waikoloa Village Market to support the high school of their choice.

The program is a collaborative effort between KTA Super Stores, Sport Line and Hawaiian Airlines that is helping make up for the budget shortfall by donating a total of $50,000 in travel and sports equipment specifically for Big Island high school sports.

In the 2009-10 school year, approximately 50 percent, or $1.2 million, was cut from Hawaii’s public high school athletic programs throughout the state.

KTA Super Stores’ shoppers automatically earn one point for purchasing each participating product and designate which school to donate their points to at checkout. Shoppers donated more than 100,000 points to date.

The more points a school earns, the larger their share of $50,000 total for travel and sports equipment. Each school is guaranteed a minimum of $500.

Since S’port Up! first began in 2007, Big Island high school athletic departments received a total of $150,000.

There will be more than 250 eligible products to earn points for S’port Up! Special KTA Super Stores S’port Up! displays will be placed near each item.
