Brewing company to tap coffee flavored beer

Kona Brewing Co.’s Kailua-Kona brewery and pub will celebrate Kona’s annual coffee harvest with the tapping of its seasonal beer, Da Grind Buzz Kona Coffee Imperial Stout, at 5 p.m. Friday. The beer tapping coincides with the kickoff of the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. At the tapping celebration, beer and coffee connoisseurs can sample the Kona coffee stout and talk with the brewers who crafted it.

Da Grind Buzz Kona Coffee Imperial Stout is an assertive, rich and hearty dark stout complemented by freshly roasted 100 percent Kona coffee. The stout style is a Russian Imperial stout, historically brewed strong to survive its long voyage from London to the Baltic region. Freshly roasted coarse ground 100 percent Kona coffee beans were added to the brew during the aging process. The beans, grown, harvested and roasted by Cornwell Estate in Holualoa, lend a distinctive roasted coffee aroma to the brew.

Kona Brewing Co. also crafts a fall/winter seasonal brew, Pipeline Porter, made with 100 percent Kona coffee.
