Health and wellness group meets Sunday

The Big Island Health and Wellness Alliance meets at noon Sunday at the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Gardens in Captain Cook — during the Healing Gardens Festival.

Formerly called the Big Island Wellness Travel Association and founded by Susanne Sims, the renamed organization is hosting a speaker from California, Carolyn Marie. Known for her organizational work with “green” builders, Marie has chosen to speak about “Dynamic Governance.”

Members and nonmembers are welcome to attend the meeting and short talk by Marie intended to reignite awareness of opportunities available through the alliance. New board members will be voted in to help direct the future of the organization — keeping in mind the original purpose of helping health, wellness and cultural practitioners; farmers producing healthy food; ecotourism and agrotourism; made in Hawaii products; and sustainable development on Hawaii Island.

For more information, contact Barbara Moore at info@dragonflyranch.com or by calling 328-2159.

In the commercial division, the design award went to the Waiea Garden at Hualalai Resort Spa, created by the Valley Crest Design Group, James Hyatt Studio for Commercial Design.

The installation over $50,000 honor was given to the Kaupulehu Beach Club, professionally installed by RMG Landscaping. The oceanfront club was designed by Mark Mahaney, VITA Planning and Landscape Architecture.

The commercial maintenance award went to Bezona Botanicals Landscape Consultant and the landscaping staff at the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona resort condominiums for its landscape gardens.
