Ranch’s heritage center adds gift shop

The Anna Ranch Heritage Center announces the opening of the Kitchen Gift Shop, a specialty retail shop located in the historic kitchen of Anna Leialoha Lindsey Perry-Fiske. Shop hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

“We showcase a wonderful selection of handcrafted gift items from local Big Island artists, along with specialized merchandise that depicts the heritage of Anna Ranch and reflects the interests and values of Anna herself,” said Lynn Marie Lara, buyer for the Kitchen Gift Shop. “The benefit of the Kitchen Gift Shop is that it will in turn support our local community. The proceeds from the shop will help fund educational programs for our island keiki and ongoing facility restoration at Anna Ranch.”

Anna Ranch is in the middle of developing a saddle makers workshop, located in Perry-Fiske’s barn, where students can come and experience the history and art of the Hawaiian saddle and learn about tooling leather, including hands-on projects.

Additionally, students can learn about the art of metal working as they observe local blacksmith Ethan Troney in the newly established blacksmith shop. His hand forged gift items are a reminder of the memories made at Anna Ranch. Horseshoe Christmas ornaments, key chains, dinner bells and other items can be found in the Kitchen Gift Shop.

Located in Waimea at 65-1480 Kawaihae Road, the Anna Ranch Heritage Center is on the national registry of historic homes. The ranch hosts guided tours twice daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday thorough Saturday. During the tour guests learn how Perry-Fiske directly impacted the local ranching industry on the Big Island, perpetuated the art of pa’u riding and through her philanthropic effort, hosted an event called “Old Hawaii on Horseback” where funds were raised for the Hawaii and the American Heart Associations.
