Body Glove Cruises adds new vessel

Body Glove Cruises has announced it has put into service a new vessel, Kanoa II. The luxury, state-of-the-art, 65-foot catamaran is certified for 149 passengers and will began offering cruises Wednesday.

The Kanoa II will join Body Glove Cruises’ original vessel, the 51-foot catamaran Kanoa I, which has been operating in Kona since 1980 and offers daily snorkel/dolphin sails, sunset cruises and seasonal whale watching cruises for both visitors and residents.

The Kanoa II’s decor includes back-lit translucent blue waves, brushed stainless steel accents, mood lighting, flat screen televisions, piped cushioned seating and Corian full service premium bar. It also has three restrooms, two freshwater showers, a 20-foot water slide, high dive platform, two large double swim platforms, a full sound system for live entertainment and karaoke and underwater lighting to create an ambiance for evening cruises.

The boat is specially-designed to plane through the water, reaching speeds up to 22 knots per hour with propulsion by twin 810 horsepower Cummins engines. Solar panels located on the upper Bimini are charged daily by sunshine and support all daily power consumption on board. The Kanoa II is also equipped with radar, GPS, auto pilot, fish finder, VHF and other of the latest marine electronic technology.

The Kanoa II will be available for private parties and charitable and nonprofit functions. A blessing and open house aboard the boat is planned for the end of October. For more information, call 326-7122.

Merriman’s dinner benefits The Food Basket

Merriman’s Restaurant in Waimea will be serving a dinner to benefit The Food Basket, formerly known as Hawaii Island Food Bank, on Saturday. In mid-August, The Food Basket took steps to inform the community of the dire need to replenish dwindling food supplies. Merriman spokespeople said that it is their duty, as part of this community, to respond.

After Saturday’s event, Merriman’s Restaurant will donate 10 percent of the food sales to The Food Basket to help alleviate hunger in the community. The function will add to the $900 already raised by Peter and Vicki Merriman and their staff to respond to The Food Basket’s urgent request for food.

Seating is limited, call 885-6822 for reservations.
