Twigg-Smiths selected ‘Employer of the Year’

Each year the Rotary Club of Kona looks into the community for a company deserving recognition for upholding the tenets of Rotary as stated in its motto of “Service Above Self” and the “Four Way Test:” Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships. Will it be beneficial to all concerned? The club traditionally chooses a company outside of Rotary that amplifies the Rotary standards in their business practices and honors them with an “Employer of the Year” award.

This year the award went to Christian and Lisa Twigg-Smith, proprietors of CTS Earthmoving Inc. and Kona Blue Sky Coffee.

CTS Earth moving employs about 80 employees. In the last year alone, CTS has donated time and materials to a number of community projects including fill material provided to make the picnic area of Honl’s Beach Park, new basketball courts going in next to Kekuaokalani Gym and the creation of the basketball/hard court for Hualalai Academy.

Kona Blue Sky Coffee, which was incorporated in 1996, employs five farm workers and five to seven retail associates in the Hualalai Road visitor center/retail location. Wholesale and Internet retail sales move the remainder of their yearly production.

Rotary club members are business and professional leaders who volunteer in their communities and promote world understanding and peace. Rotary’s 31,000 clubs in more than 165 countries and regions encourage high ethnical standards and carry out humanitarian projects. For more information on Rotary International, visit www.rotary.org.
