Bank’s Saturday event benefits state YMCAs
American Savings Bank will hold its monthly “First Saturday” community collection program on Saturday in support of the YMCA’s children’s program. In conjunction with the bank’s extended branch hours, all branches statewide that are open on Saturdays will serve as collection points for donated items designated for a nonprofit organization.
On Saturday, the bank’s branches will be collecting art supplies for out-of-school programs such as after school A+ and summer day camp for children statewide. YMCA’s children’s programs provides students from kindergarten to sixth grade with educational and recreational activities.
YMCA is requesting the following arts and crafts items for the August First Saturday collection: pencils, pens, scissors (kids), markers, glue, glue sticks, crayons, watercolor tins, washable paints, construction paper, reams of plain copy paper, pipe cleaners, pony beads, lanyards, coloring books, origami paper and other art supplies. Other requests include children’s books (K -6), board games (K-6) and G-rated DVDs.
Kraft Foods, Longs launch anti-hunger drive
Kraft Foods in Hawaii has partnered with Longs Drug Stores to launch “Hunger Never Takes a Vacation,” a fundraising campaign for the Hawaii FoodBank and neighbor island foodbanks. Offered through Aug. 30, the program will help feed families in need during summer vacation, which is a critical time for Hawaii’s children since school meal programs are on hold.
The “Hunger Never Takes a Vacation” campaign is a way for everyone to help. Kraft Foods has kicked off the fundraising by donating $5,000 to the Hawaii FoodBank.
