Tavares returns to Cafe Pesto

Blunt to head group sales at Fair Wind

Christopher Blunt has been named special events and groups sales manager at Fair Wind, Big Island Ocean Guides. Blunt assumes responsibilities for cultivating new groups and events including the local market.

A veteran with the hospitality industry, Blunt spent the past nine years in positions, including sales manager at the Mauna Lani Bay Resort, national sales manager at Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa and Marriott’s director of national accounts.


Driver education course set in Waikoloa

Marlin Driving Academy is offering a driver education course in Waikoloa starting in mid-August. The class meets Aug. 18 through Sept. 19 at Waikoloa School. Classes are scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday for five weeks in Room G-104. A mandatory parent meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13 in Room G-104 at the school.

This course is open to students ages 151/2 and older. Parents must attend the parent ,meeting prior to the start of the course, in order to complete registration forms and review course requirements.

The course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction plus six hours of behind-the-wheel driving time to be scheduled in September through December, after the completion of classroom instruction. The course covers rules of the road, driving safety and how to handle real-life driving situations. Students must have a valid state learner’s permit in order to drive.

All classes are taught by state Department of Transportation-certified instructor Marc Boucher. Boucher has been teaching driver education classes in the Waimea and Waikoloa communities for the past five years.

Sunglass boutique opens at Kings’ Shops

Solstice Sunglass Boutique, the upscale luxury sunwear specialty chain, opened July 18 at the Kings’ Shops. The new 600-square-foot boutique features an innovative and upscale European store design, a unique “hands-on” retailing approach and chic store ambience.

The shop specializes in upscale, high-end designer fashion sunglass brands, yet also offers more moderately priced bridge collections and active sport sunwear lines.
