Housecalls opens Holualoa clinic
Housecalls of Hawaii recently opened a clinic at the Malama i ka Ola Holistic Health Center in Holualoa. The business that brings health care to residents’ and visitors’ homes, offices and hotel rooms, now provides office visits as well. The clinic, on Mamalahoa Highway, is open by appointment each weekday. Housecalls also can accommodated evening and weekend clinic appointments.
In 2006, Housecalls of Hawaii LLC began making medical house calls, offering residents and visitors an alternative to traditional doctor’s visits. With the opening of the Holualoa clinic, it can further accommodate patients’ needs and desires.
The staff can provide urgent and primary care services for any medical condition that is not life-threatening at its Holualoa clinic or in a person’s home. The certified providers are equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and medicines, allowing them to treat most medical conditions on the spot. Housecalls also offers prescription writing and refill services and coordination of medication. The medical providers offer physical exams for employment, school, sports, commercial driver’s licenses and scuba. They can suture and provide suture removal as well as provide follow-up care after emergency room or hospital discharge. They will coordinate care with home health nursing services and primary care physicians, if desired.

HSTA selects Kurisu as its award winner
The Hawaii State Teachers Association has selected Big Island business leader Derek Kurisu, executive vice president of KTA Super Stores, as the 2007 Friend of Youth Award winner.
“When it comes to making teachers feel appreciated, caring about our public schools and providing public sector support to help make education fun and exciting, there is no one who does more than Derek Kurisu,” said Roger Takabayashi, HSTA president. “We hope he inspires other business leaders to get involved at the local school level to help make a positive difference in the lives of teachers and students alike. We fell incredibly lucky that Derek Kurisu has chosen strengthening and improving public education as his way of giving back to our community.”
