Nurses group offers Medical Terminology class

The Hawaii Nurses Association District 7 is offering an eight-hour Medical Terminology course from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Kona Community Hospital.

This class is recommended for individuals who work in medical offices, those who plan to enroll in medical or nursing careers, certified nurses assistants, medical assistants, medical records clerks and hospital clerks. The cost is $89.

Tropical Fruit Growers meeting on Monday

The Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service office in Kainaliu.

Franz Weber, board president of the Hawaii Organic Farmers Association and general manager for United Natural Foods, will talk about new stores opening in Hawaii and what it means for local growers. He will also talk about market growth of natural organic fruit versus conventionally grown fruit and the distribution and marketing channels.

Members are asked to bring fruit for sampling. The next 12 Trees Project work day is scheduled for Saturday at the project site near the bottom of Napoopoo Road next to the Kona Pacific Farmers Cooperative. Volunteers are asked to arrive about 8:30 a.m. with shovels and rakes to assist in applying mulch and macadamia nut shells at the site. Refreshments will be provided.
