Market site fetes its first year in business

Kona International Market holds an international birthday celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The center is celebrating one year in business with a cultural extravaganza featuring performances from countries around the world. Live performances from Hula Halau Makanani, the Mexican country dancers, a visit to Thailand with a visual display of costumes, a traditional Filipino dance demonstration and Irish Celtic music are planned. Each country is hosting an educational demonstration table, displaying musical instruments, history displays and cultural artifacts.

Free birthday cake for everyone, a live performance by Ono Gumbo and free mystery balloons with merchant discounts are available. Those attending can pick up free international passports, the passport is chance to win a trip for two to the outer islands. Passports are available while supplies last that day.


Two authors appearing at Kona Stories

Two authors are signing books Saturday at Kona Stories. Mike Taylor, author of “A Thousand Sleeps,” and Gary Bolter, author of “Conquest of the Mask,” will be there from 1 to 3 p.m.
