Huggo’s selects general manager
Huggo’s recently announced the addition of Valerie Lamb to its staff as general manager. Lamb brings to Huggo’s 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She will be responsible for all phases of day-to-day restaurant management operations.
Most recently, Lamb worked in restaurant management and operations at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort. Prior to Outrigger, she held management positions at Clarion Hotels, Front Page Catering, Hog’s Breath Inn in Carmel, Northstar at Tahoe, Cal-Neva Resort and Resort at Squaw Creek. Lamb is a graduate of San Francisco State University and has completed numerous hospitality industry courses.
Arellano, Kaimiola promoted by Sheraton
Arnold Arellano has been named executive chef at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa. Joining Arellano in the number two position in the kitchens at the oceanfront resort will be Clement Kaimiolo, who was named executive sous chef.
Arellano joined Sheraton Keauhou Bay as a Cook I in August 2005. He was promoted to executive sous chef in April and led the culinary team when the previous executive chef returned to the mainland shortly thereafter.
Kaimiola has been promoted to executive sous chef and will report to Arellano. Kaimiola was part of Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa’s pre-opening team in 2004. A demonstrated leader, Kaimiola worked his way up the ranks beginning his culinary career in an island resort kitchen as dishwasher.
American Savings Bank receives national award
America’s Community Bankers presented an award for the bank’s Hoolako Pono Loan Program to Constance Lau, chairman, president and CEO of American Savings Bank, Nov. 9 during ACB’s annual conference at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
American Savings Bank received one of only 13 awards and was the only bank to be honored in the category of Helping to Improve Home Ownership.
“We are truly honored to be nationally recognized by our peers as a community bank that is actively working to better the lives of the people of Hawaii,” Lau said. “Through our special programs, such as Hoolako Pono, American Savings Bank and its employees understand the importance of providing financial services to our community where they are needed the most.”
Introduced in August 2005, the Hoolako Pono Loan Program was the first of its kind in the state to offer construction loans and mortgages to Department of Hawaiian Home Lands lessees. Hoolako means to provide or nourish and pono means to make things right. These loans up to $625,000 can be used to purchase a new home, refinance an existing home or finance the construction of a new home. To date, more than 153 loans totaling more than $32.8 million have been lent for DHHL improvements, and more than $29 million additional funds are in process.
