Sumida is a district supervisor 1 for the Department of Water Supply in the Ka’u District, which covers Pahala, Naalehu, Waiohinu and South Point, or Kalae. His main duties consist of being in charge of the day-to-day operations of the water system in the district, providing safe drinking water to 1,500 customers.

Water department employees honored

Recognized as the best of the best Hawaii County employees, Department of Water Supply pipefitter Norris Gonsalves recently was presented the 2007 County of Hawaii Employee of the Year Award.

Gonsalves is a pipefitter in the Department of Water Supply’s District II, which covers a portion of North Hilo, Hamakua and North and South Kohala. His main duties consist of installing, repairing, maintaining and replacing pipelines and appurtenances so the department’s customers could receive clean and safe potable water.

Cyrus Sumida was awarded the 2007 William Y. Thompson Award, noted throughout Hawaii’s water industry for dedication, superior work performance, outstanding service to the water industry and love for the people of Hawaii, recently.
