PATCH helps caregivers to register for program
The Quality Care Program was established by the state Department of Human Services to promote quality child care. Those who care for other people’s children in their homes are invited to participate. These include licensed family child care providers, license-exempt providers, grandparents, family members and/or friends who child care. People Attentative to Children provides technical assistance to caregivers and helps them through the registration process at no charge.
All providers receive a monthly packet of educational materials and early learning activities. In addition, caregivers who serve children receiving DHS child care subsides can receive a monthly incentive payment.

Chamber conference scheduled for Friday
Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual Environment and Natural Resource conference, “Everything IS Connected,” will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
The all-day conference will feature two keynote speakers and others. This includes afternoon breakout sessions to examine significant problems and solutions.
The first keynote speaker is physicist Nassim Haramein, who will be discussing discoveries on how the universe creates itself, our central position in the process and how “Everything IS Connected.” His grand unification theory has bridged the worlds of physics, archeology, biology, philosophy and religion.
The second keynote speaker is Kepa Maly, cultural historian and resource specialist from Lanai. Over his lifetime, he has spent time with and interviewed many of Hawaii’s kupuna. He will be sharing how the native traditions can teach us much of their observance and respect of nature.
The afternoon will be divided first with reports and updates from experts and representatives on the island’s Sustainable Energy Plan, water quality monitoring, the Hawaii Island Land Trust, the island’s watershed, the Hawaii Island Food Summit and the Kuleana Green Business Program.
Registration forms are available at the chamber office, 75-5737 Kuakini Hwy., Suite 208, Kailua-Kona. Registration fee is $40 for chamber members, $45 for nonmembers, and includes lunch. No walk-ins will be accepted. The last day to register is Nov. 15.
