Sewing contest winners announced

During the month of September, Discount Fabric Warehouse celebrated National Sewing Month with “Take this Craft and Sew It” sewing contest. All middle and high schools on the island were invited to participate, as well as the public.

Each participant was given a free kit which included a piece of fabric, ribbon and instructions to sew an iPod holder or a clutch purse or they could create their own project. They could also embellish using their own imagination. Projects were judged on creativity and use of materials.

The grand prize winner, Christie Jennings, received a Babylock sewing machine; first place winner, Mercedes Ruiz, a $100 gift certificate; and second place winner, Lehua Gilkey, a $50 gift certificate.

All projects and winners are posted on the Web site at GotFabric.com.
