Marketplace hosts costume contest
The public is invited to “Cars, Costumes and Critters” on Saturday at the Kona International Marketplace. The event starts at 2 p.m. with a costume contest open to adults and children. Imagination is welcome for the categories of cutest, scariest and most original.
The first pet costume contest, sponsored by Pooch Parade, starts at 2:30 p.m. Free giveaways will be given to all entrants and prizes from Pooch Parade are awarded tot he winners. The categories are cutest, scariest and most original and additional points are awarded if owners match their pets.
The market also offers a car, bike and motorcycle costume contest for owners who wish to dress up or decorate their vehicle. Vehicles should be parked in a marked stall by 2 p.m., judging starts at 3:30 p.m.
Free candy will be given out during the day.
Lokahi awarded 3-year accreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities has awarded Lokahi Treatment Centers accreditation for a period of three years for its Outpatient Treatment Integrated: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Mental Health (adults), Outpatient Treatment Integrated: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Mental Health (children and adolescents) and Outpatient Treatment Integrated: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Mental Health programs (criminal justice).
The latest accreditation is the second consecutive three-year accreditation outcome that the international accrediting commission has awarded to Lokahi Treatment Centers.
The accreditation outcome represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the standards established by CARF. An organization receiving a three-year accrediting outcome has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during on an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable and accountable.
Lokahi Treatment Centers is a nonprofit organization with offices in Waikoloa, Honokaa, Kohala, Kona, Hilo and Naalehu. It has been providing services on the Big Island since 2001.
Hawaiian beef companies merge
Hawaii Big Island Beef, Hawaii’s new premier beef raising company, is set to emerge as a major player in the all-natural beef market.
Headquartered in Paauilo, Big Island Beef represents the culmination of a merger between two established Hawaiian beef companies: Andrade Processing facility/J&J’s Meat Markets and Hawaii Beef Producers.
Now, held under the name of Hawaii Beef Producers LLC, the company is launching Hawaii Big Island Beef as its showcase brand of Hawaiian beef products.
Chairman and chief executive officer is David S. de Luz Jr.
Jill Andrade-Mattos, descendent of the renowned Hawaiian beef pioneering family, will serve as general manager for all facilities.
