Fruit growers host NRCS representative
Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers-West Hawaii meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service office in Kainaliu. Jeff Knowles, from the U.S. Departments of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service Kona office, will discuss the farm bill and what it means for Kona. He will also outline the current potential for NRCS projects in the district.
Members are asked to bring fruit for sampling. Nonmembers are welcome to attend.

Health fair slated at Kealakekua Ranch Center
The Kealakekua Ranch Center Association and its merchants are sponsoring a health fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Participants of the health fair will be Hawaii Medical Service Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Beehive Hearing Center, The Foot Care Clinic LLC and the HIV/AIDS Foundation.
HMSA will be offering flu shots at no charge to all members, showing a valid membership card and Identification. American Heart Association will be offering free blood pressure and blood sugar checks. On-site hearing test will be offered by the Beehive hearing center and foot care by the Foot Care Clinic. The American Cancer Society will be on distributing information on cancer awareness, and the HIV/AIDS Foundation will be doing saliva testing, Flu shots will be offered to non-HMSA members for $40; cash only is accepted.
Health care directives seminar slated
A free information seminar will discuss the importance of Advance Health Care Directives, how to avoid the pitfalls of leaving property to children, how to protect a person and his or her family if he or she ever becomes incapacitated, and ways to maximize the value of an estate in passing it to loved ones.
The seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Royal Kona Resort’s Discovery Room. Refreshments will be served.
