Sheraton appoints new director of sales
Brad Doell has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the oceanfront Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa.
Doell joined resort’s sales team as director of group sales in August 2005. During the past two years he has been successful in designing, coordinating and implementing sales strategies and building partnerships.
Doell’s responsibilities will include global programs, marketing and customer education. His administrative duties will include overseeing his staff of group and leisure sales managers and assistants and training and retention of employees. He will be involved in national and local marketing programs to elevate awareness of the destination, the resort and the Sheraton and Starwood brands.
He replaces Revell Newton, who has been promoted to senior director of group sales for Starwood Hotels in Waikiki.
Bauman, Uding join Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii recently announced that Vicky Bauman has been appointed as executive director. Also, Jim Uding has been hired to head the new Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii Restore.
Bauman, with a strong foundation in nonprofit management, will be responsible for the financial and administrative operations of the local affiliate. In addition, Bauman will oversee the management of the facilities, volunteer and staff development and collaborations with community agencies that will assist Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii meet its goals. Bauman formally joins Habitat for Humanity following her interim work as its executive director and office manager. Prior to joining Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii, she was most recently the executive director of the YMCA of Greater Toledo in Toledo, Ohio.
Uding will manage the new Habitat Restore. In his new role, Uding will work with various community outlets to gather and sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public, using the proceeds to help fund the construction of Habitat houses within the West Hawaii community. Uding comes to Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii from Sootheze, where he created, manufactured and distributed personal comfort products to clients across the U.S.
Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii’s Restore will sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public, using the proceeds to help fund the construction of Habitat houses within the community. Materials sold are donated from building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews and from individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat. Restore welcomes volunteers, donors and shoppers.
Coffee stroll deadline for farmers is Oct. 10
More than two dozen Kona coffee farms have been invited to attend the Nov. 3 Holualoa Village Coffee and Art Stroll. The deadline for their entry information is Oct. 10. All invited farmers are reminded to send their completed invitation forms to the Holualoa Village Association by that date to ensure their inclusion in the event.
The ninth annual Coffee and Art Stroll, one of the kickoff events for this year’s Kona Coffee and Cultural Festival, will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Holualoa. All of the town’s art galleries and shops will be hosting different Kona coffee farms on their front lanai and along Mamalahoa Highway during the daylong celebration.
This year each farm will be issued a booth number so that the public may vote for its “People’s Choice” coffee. No other vendors will be allowed at the “Kona Coffee Only” event.

Konno is new president of Mauna Lani Resort
The Tokyu Group, owner of the Mauna Lani Resort, has appointed Hisashi Konno new president.
Konno will lead Mauna Lani’s executive team in the operation of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, the Francis H. Ii Brown Golf Courses and the Mauna Lani Spa.
