Rohr honored with Aloha Section PGA award
Thos Rohr, president of Waikoloa Land Co., is the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Service Award given by the Aloha Section PGA. The award is not given annually and is awarded to an individual for his or her unique contributions and dedicated service in the development and promotion of the golf industry in Hawaii.
The award recognizes Rohr’s various contributions to the promotion of golf in Hawaii and around the world. As president of Kapalua Land Co., Rohr built the Bay and Village Courses with Arnold Palmer, who helped him conduct the Kapalua “Golf Party.” At Waikoloa Beach Resort, Rohr renovated the Robert Trent Jones Beach Course and built the Kings’ Course in partnership with Tom Weiskopf, while also instituting the “Kings’ Cup” and the “TieBreaker.”
Currently, Rohr serves on the President’s Council of the United States Golf Association, the Aloha Section PGA Advisory Board, is a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and is a founder of Kingsbarns in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
Over the years Rohr has served as a personal mentor for many Aloha Sections professionals — including well-known golf authorities such as Craig Williamson, Mark Rolfing, Dick McClean, Gary Planos and Scott Head — and has supported the advancement of their careers in the field of professional golf.
