HMSA announces four promotions

Hawaii Medical Service Association has announced the promotions of Garet Azama, Jane Miyake, Roy Mizushima and Janna Nakagawa. Each of the managers was promoted to assistant vice president of their respective area of responsibility.

Azama was promoted to assistant vice president of business intelligence and information. Azama is responsible for overseeing the ongoing development of HMSA’s business intelligence infrastructure.

Miyake was promoted to assistant vice president of membership services. Miyake is responsible for overseeing the HMSA membership database for dues billing, collection, reconciliation and payment, and business reporting functions.

Mizushima was promoted to assistant vice president of professional reimbursement. Mizushima is responsible for overseeing the development of reimbursement strategies, policies and rates for physician, outpatient, laboratory, radiology and nonfacility services.

Nakagawa was promoted to assistant vice president of personnel. Nakagawa is responsible for overseeing HMSA human resources administration, benefits and compensation. She maintains responsibility for recruitment, employee relations and human resources policy.


Tucciarone promoted by Kona Brewing Co.

Kona Brewing Co. recently announced the promotion of Rich Tucciarone to vice president of brewery operations. Tucciarone has led the beer production at Kona Brewing Co. since September 1999 as its director of brewery operations.

As vice president of brewery operations, Tucciarone will retain his duties in Kailua-Kona, with an increased emphasis on growing beer production in Kona, with the company’s mainland brewing partners and with the limited release beer program that launched with Pipeline Porter last fall.

Tucciarone will be responsible for Kona Brewing Co.’s brewing capacity expansion in the future to meet the need of the company’s increasing market size, potentially adding East Coast beer production. He holds a bachelor of science degree in food science with an emphasis on product development and fermentation from Cornell University.

Chamber offers free seminar on Friday

“Legislative Process 101,” a free seminar sponsored by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and Kona Coast Realty, is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority conferences room.

Sherry Menor, director for business advocacy for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, will conduct this informative, educational and enlightening session. Topics will include: how a bill becomes a law, who makes the decisions, why it is important for businesses to get involved and how a business can become involved in the legislative process.

Coffee and pastries will be provided.

Conservation development is Thursday seminar topic

“Real Challenges, Real Choices, Real Finances and Real Opportunities: A Case Study in Conservation Development on the Island of Hawaii” is scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows.

The Kohala Center is offering this free professional development seminar to landowners, planners and architects who wrestle with ways to bring principles of conservation into their work as developers.

Gregory Hendrickson, conservation attorney, and Clark P. Stevens, architect and planner, will talk about the real challenges of their work at Hokukano Ranch and Kealakekua Heritage Ranch. Hendrickson is one of the country’s top attorneys in the field of conservation. Stevens, AIA/APA, president of New West Land Co. and co-owner of RoTo Architects Inc., has gained 18 years of broad-based experience in architecture, urban and rural design and is a pioneering teacher and practitioner of conservation development design.
