Big Island Toyota collects for Food Basket
Big Island Toyota will accept nonperishable food donations at its dealerships in Hilo and Kona from the Big Island community to help feed the hungry on the Big Island.
From Jan. 26 through Feb. 7, Big Island Toyota will donate 50 cents per pound, up to 6,000 pounds for all nonperishable food items to be presented to the Food Basket on Feb. 11 at KTA Super Stores at Keauhou.
The business invites residents to help support the Food Basket by donating nonperishable items, such as canned meals, breakfast cereals, saimin, rice and peanut butter. The goal is three tons of food equals three Tundra trucks equals 6,000 pounds, plus $3,000.
Big Island Toyota representatives and Kahikina will present the food collected and a check to the Food Basket at 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the KTA Super Stores at Keauhou.

Collection program helps isle shelter
American Savings Bank held its monthly “First Saturday” community collection program on Jan. 3 and collected an overwhelming amount of items, including toiletries, gently used clothing, blankets, baby diapers and slippers for Hawaii’s shelters across the state.
The Friendly Place on the Big Island is among the recipients to receive collected items.
