Delegates heading to World Tea Expo
A statewide delegation of tea growers from Hawaii Island, Maui and Kauai will be introducing the Hawaii grown tea industry to the mainland and world specialty market at the World Tea Expo from June 11 to 13 at the convention center in Las Vegas.
The farms in the delegation represent a spectrum of tea agriculture, propagation, product development, agro tourism, research and experience in education. The delegates are Eva Lee, of Tea Hawaii and Co.,and Kimberly Ino, of Mauna Kea Tea, both from Hawaii Island; Liam Ball, of Na Liko Tea from Maui, and Michelle Rose, of Cloudwater Tea Farm from Kauai. Tea products will also be on display with the delegation at the expo, including value-added tea products by Mike Riley, of Volcano Tea Garden; John Cross, of Johnny’s Garden; and Alex Wood, of Volcano Winery, all located on Hawaii Island.
Delegation project director Lee is a selected speaker on the importance of Hawaii-grown tea. Internationally renowned tea professional speaker and author, Jane Pettigrew, of the United Kingdom, will feature focused tasting sessions of Hawaii grown tea.
The project is supported by the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council, co-sponsored by Tea Hawaii and Co. in cooperation with the state Department of Agriculture.

Mortensen joins hospital’s staff
North Hawaii Community Hospital welcomes Lorrie Mortensen as vice president of patient care services. Mortensen will also serve in the capacity of chief nursing officer, the hospital’s top nursing leader.
Most recently, Mortensen served as chief nursing officer of Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac, Mich., where she was responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and administering all nursing and patient care service activities. She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society of nursing.
Mortensen received a bachelor of science in business management degree, as well as master of science in nursing and master of business administration/health care management degrees from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix.
Vendors sought for cancer society fundraiser
Crafter/vendor space is available at a benefit trade show to be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Island Naturals in Kailua-Kona. The show is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and the services it provides on the island.
Everyone is invited to attend for information on scrap booking, making chocolate, cooking made easy, massage and more.
