A free solar education seminar presented by RevoluSun will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at Kona Bowl, 75-5591 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona.

A provider of residential solar electric and hot water systems, RevoluSun, will present the family-friendly solar educational seminar so attendees can learn about the ABCs of solar. Attendees will find out how solar works, what solar systems are available, how to determine which system is best for a family’s needs, how to navigate and capitalize on the numerous tax credits available and how to save money with solar.

Seminar attendees also will receive incentives on a RevoluSun system. Parents are welcome to bring their children.

NHCH expands its electronic records

North Hawaii Community Hospital is joining the ranks of hospitals and health care providers across the nation in embracing the benefits of electronic health records and other forms of health information technology. The Waimea hospital intends to officially achieve “meaningful use” of electronic health records and register for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The hospital initiated its own electronic health records program in 2006 preceding the current national program. Key donor support in 2007, along with leadership of Dr. William Park, the hospital’s chief medical officer, enabled the hospital to lead the way in this area. In 2007, Waimea physicians also began using electronic health records. Currently, 95 percent of the physicians in Waimea are using electronic health records.

Bank, employees commit $2.5M to charities

First Hawaiian Bank and its employees have donated in excess of $2.5 million to more than 400 local charities in 2010.

“We are also committed to match that figure in 2011,” said Don Horner, chairman and chief executive officer. “I am especially proud of our employees who individually contributed over 20 percent of our total giving. This year, 94 percent of First Hawaiian Bank employees participated in Kokua Mai, the bank’s annual employee giving campaign. The bank’s Kokua Mai campaign raised over $560,000 in proceeds for our community nonprofits. The balance of the funding donation will be provided by the bank and its foundation.”
