District seeks board of directors applicants

Members of the Kailua Village Business Improvement District interested in serving on the volunteer board of directors are invited to run for election. Terms for the six open board positions are two years and commence at the election held at the annual meeting, which will be March 18. Eligibility for elected board members is limited to members of the district.

Operations of the organization are overseen by a 17 member board of directors. By ordinance, four of these positions are appointed (Public Works, Finance Department, mayor, district council member) and 13 are elected by the fee simple owners of land and/or lessees of land within the district. Six board seats will stand for election at the annual meeting.

Four of the six open seats will be filled by fee simple owners and/or lessees of land within the district and the remaining two will be commercial tenants within the district. Application deadline is Jan. 18. Applications are available online at kvbid.org.

Hulakai, a surfboard, stand-up paddleboard and surf apparel lifestyle store has opened at the Shops at Mauna Lani. The new 1,400-square-foot store is located across from The Shops’ signature water feature center stage.

The store will carry a full line of surfboards, paddleboards, beach gear, board shorts, swimwear, children’s clothing, ding repair and accessories. It also offers surfing and stand-up paddleboard lessons, kayak and beach rentals, snorkel tours, Hawaiian sailing canoes and more at its second location in the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows beach area.
