SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY

Penny Gupton, longtime Kailua-Kona resident and watercolor artist, is instructing a four-day honu workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 to 10.

Participants will all be creating one of two 15-by-20-inch honu, or green sea, turtle paintings and will be taken step by step through to the final painting. There will be information on the honu, shell design and the honu’s distinct coloring.

Gupton, who spent her youth in California and Australia, has called Kona her “true” home for many years. In Hawaii, Gupton’s style of painting finds inspiration in the beauty, color and serenity of her island life. She is known for her vibrant color, shadows and play of light. Her work can be seen at pennygupton.com. Gupton has been teaching ongoing weekly classes for several years.
