Fire burns former Kona Bakery

The fire closed the highway between Konawaena School Road and Keekee Street at 7:30 p.m. and reopened at 9:05 p.m., Hawaii County Civil Defense officials said.

A vacant building on Hawaii Belt Road burned down Sunday evening, Fire Department officials said.

Part of the building, the former Kona Bakery, collapsed after the lower, two-story section at the northwest corner, caught fire, the Fire Department said. No neighboring buildings were threatened by the blaze.

No damage estimate was available Monday. No one was injured.
