Senior guard Lia Galdeira scored 16 points, and junior forward Courtney Kaupu added 11 as defending Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I state champion Konawaena improved to 5-0 with a 64-16 road victory over Kohala in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls basketball game.

Senior Makayla Awa added 10 points for the Wildcats.

Senior guard Chyler Imai finished with eight points — half of the scoring output for the Cowgirls (2-3).

In the JV game, Konawaena defeated Kohala 32-23 behind sophomore Makani Wall’s 18 points.

Junior Brittany Balgas led Kohala with eight points.

— Honokaa 65, Kealakehe 6: Sophomore guards Shereena Bird and Shemika Frazier scored 18 and 14 points, respectively, for the visiting Dragons, who improved to 4-1.

Kelsey Ezzo scored five points for the Waveriders (1-4).

In the JV game, Honokaa beat Kealakehe 53-22.

— Waiakea 49, Keaau 39: Junior forward Daven Namohala-Roloos scored 15 points, and senior guard Alyssa Ferreira added 14 as the host Warriors overcame a three-point halftime deficit to improve to 5-0.

Jacy Pagala scored a game-high 16 points for the Cougars (1-4).

In the JV contest, Vanessa Ignacio scored 15 points, and Christa Amuimuia had 11 for Waiakea in its 65-20 victory.

— Hilo 52, Ka’u 28: Chailey Cabalis scored 16 points in Pahala as three Vikings reached double figures.

Amber Vaughn added 12 points, and Sydnee Yokota had 11 for Hilo (3-2).

Taylor Pocock led the Trojans (1-4) with eight points.

In the JV game, Hilo beat Ka’u 55-24 behind 17 points from Kayla Okimoto. Kanoe Brickwood added 16, and Shyanne Higa-Gonsalves chipped in 12.

Denisha Navarro and Piilani Peralta each had seven for Ka’u.
