Hoku Corp. warned it could be delisted
HONOLULU — The Nasdaq Stock Market has warned Hoku Corp. the company faces delisting because its stock continues to trade below $1 a share.
The Honolulu-based commercial solar power company says Nasdaq sent it a notice saying the company has until July 10 to maintain a minimum bid closing price of at least $1 for 10 straight business days.
The company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it will consider all available options to resolve the deficiency and regain compliance with the minimum price requirement.
Hoku shares closed up 3 cents, or 3.6 percent, at 73 cents a share.
A Hoku subsidiary, Hoku Materials, has recently been in a dispute with Idaho Power Co. about unpaid electricity bills for a Pocatello manufacturing plant.
Caldwell launches new campaign for Honolulu mayor
HONOLULU — Former Honolulu acting mayor Kirk Caldwell has launched a campaign to run for mayor.
Caldwell said he believes Honolulu deserves better than it’s getting now and he can do the job.
Caldwell served as acting mayor in 2010 after then Mayor Mufi Hannemann resigned to run for governor. He lost to Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle in a special election for the remainder of Hannemann’s term in September 2010. Caldwell had served city managing director under Hannemann.
Caldwell told reporters Thursday he’s confident he can win.
Cha Thompson, the campaign manager for Carlisle’s re-election campaign, said the mayor anticipated a challenge from Caldwell. She said Carlisle has brought the city’s fiscal house in order and will continue to stress fiscal discipline.
Hawaii tops 3rd round of Miss America
LAS VEGAS — A jump roping Miss Hawaii topped contestants in the third round of the Miss America talent competition in Las Vegas, while a swimsuit-clad Miss New York scored honors in the lifestyle and fitness category.
Miss Hawaii Lauren Cheape won a $2,000 scholarship for her routine to “Hawaii Five-O” at Thursday night’s preliminary. The talent portion is 35 percent of a contestant’s score.
Miss New York Kaitlin Monte earned a $1,000 scholarship after appearing in a Monte Carlo Komplique swimsuit. The fitness category is 15 percent of a contestant’s score.
The two join Miss Wisconsin and Miss Oklahoma, who won for talent in preliminaries earlier this week. Miss Utah and Miss Texas won swimsuit in rounds one and two.
The finals are Saturday at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
