Noise complaints

Is it noise or military?

After reading the letters by Eugene Dursin, Lynn M. Doyle and Courtney Sweeney regarding the recent military aircraft maneuvers, I couldn’t help but notice these letters smacked of anti-military more than being anti-noise.

I have to wonder, do these people register such complaints about vehicles with obnoxiously loud exhausts screaming up and down the streets late at night? What about the Harley-Davidson motorcycles that blast out their exhausts when riders decide to rev constantly their engines when stopped? Or how about drivers who feel it incumbent upon themselves to play loud, obscenity-laced, heavy bass “music” at ear-splitting decibels?

Do they complain then?

I can’t help but wonder if they would be so angry and openly complain if these “occupy” protesters were near their homes or places of business with bullhorns and shouts of obscenities?

No? I guess they only hate the military and the brave men and women (like Col. Hammond and Lynn Doyle’s alleged father) who risk their lives and shed their blood in service to our country. Once again, we see the ungrateful citizens of our country and our community biting the hands that serve to protect them.

Water rescue

Help appreciated

I am contacting your newspaper hoping that via your most popular local source I have a chance to say thank you to those who rescued me from the water today.

I was snorkeling at the Spencer Beach Park area when the weather drastically changed and I started to get carried away from the shore.

There were two couples who heard my cries for help and were coming my direction. The whole thing was extremely overwhelming for me.

No, I have no names to name, unfortunately, just very compassionate and caring people for whom I am grateful.

Holdcroft sentence

Don’t expunge record

I’m rereading the article again to make sure that I haven’t misread the court’s ruling on this case.

The punishment fits the crime — except for where you state that once Holdcroft meets all the conditions, her record will be cleared.

This is not a minor doing a misdeed. This person is an adult, who knowingly stole money from our hospital foundation and forged the president’s name.

I don’t think this should be removed from her record at all. It should stay on there so whoever reads her resume or checks on her record will know what she is capable of doing.

Once someone does something as bad as this, I don’t think they should be let off with just a fine and community duty.

Let her criminal record stand as is; this is not elementary school.
