Kahaluu, Spencer parks maintenance schedule

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the general maintenance scheduled for Kahaluu Beach Park and Spencer Park at Ohaiula Beach for 2012.

Kahaluu Beach Park will be closed from 6 to 11 a.m. Feb. 7, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

Spencer Park will be closed Jan. 18 and 19, Feb. 15 and 16, March 6 and 7, April 17 and 18, Mary 15 through 17, Sept. 11 through 13, Oct. 17 and 18, Nov. 14 and 15 and Dec. 12 and 13.


Kona singles club plans lunch

Kona Kupuna Singles Club meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 20 at Romano’s Macaroni Grill in Waikoloa. Carpooling is planned.

Daughters of the American Revolution meet Jan. 21

The first meeting of the new year for the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, Hawaii Island, Hawaii Loa Chapter, will be held at the Waikoloa Community Church on Jan. 21. Gathering time is at 10 a.m.; the meeting starts at 10:30 a.m.

The speaker will be Roy Warren of Waikoloa who will share his experiences on Midway Island, its history and wildlife.

The Hawaii Loa Chapter of DAR has more than 50 members residing all over the island. Members welcome the public to join them at their meetings. For more information, contact Mary Ellen at 322-6870.


Library book sale slated for Saturday

The Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK) will hold its next book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Library. Sale proceeds help support the needs of the Kona libraries, with funding that includes educational and entertainment programs, community summer reading programs, visiting authors, magazine subscriptions, CDs, DVDs and new book purchases. The next sale will be Feb. 11.
