BASEBALL

c Wichita State 6, Hawaii 2: Cale Elam pitched eight strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits as the Shockers ended the Warriors’ three-game winning streak Friday in Honolulu.

Elam walked four and struck out one, and Brandon Peterson followed with a scoreless inning for the Shockers (12-10).

Johnny Coy went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, coming through with a two-run single in the sixth that gave Wichita State a 5-2 lead. Garrett Bayliff, Erik Harbutz and Micah Green added two hits apiece.

Hawaii starter Scott Squier took the loss. In 3 2/3 innings, he gave up three runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two.

The Warriors (4-16), who managed just five hits, took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on the strength of Kaeo Aliviado’s RBI groundout and Conner George’s run-scoring single.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

c Hawaii def. Pacific 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23: Sinisa Zarkovic had 16 kills and four digs Friday in Honolulu as the Warriors ended a two-match losing streak.

Zarkovic, who hit .324, collected six of his kills in Game 4 for 12th-ranked Hawaii (6-12 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, 7-14 overall), which also had seven aces.

Leading 24-23 in the fourth set, Hawaii won the match on a Tigers service error.

Brooke Sedore added 16 kills and six digs for the Warriors.

Taylor Hughes had 19 kills and four digs, and Adam Troy added 16 kills for Pacific (3-12, 6-13), which outhit Hawaii .279-.260.
