Jordan Kurokawa hurled seven shutout innings, and John Abreu had three hits to lead the University of Hawaii at Hilo to a 6-0 win over Holy Names in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday in Hilo.
UH-Hilo won the second game 3-2, but details were not available at press time.
Kurokawa (1-0) scattered five hits over the seven innings for UH-Hilo (5-13, 4-8 in PacWest). He picked up the win while striking out six and walking one. Relievers Patrick Fletcher (no runs, two hits) and Sheldon Shishido each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the shutout over Holy Names (4-9, 3-3).
Abreu, UH-Hilo’s lead-off batter and shortstop, went 3-for-5 with a run batted in and a run scored.
Keenan Kaluau (one RBI), Austin Cusack and Greg Cleary (two runs) each added two hits in the Vulcans’ 12-hit attack.
