Tommy Terrific at FPP event

This past Sunday, Frozen Pea Productions held its Zoomin’ Zak Plunge and Plod Biathlon.

The course for this fun training race included a half-mile swim and a 3.9-mile run.

Athletes of all ages began their pea-ticipation by swimming in Kailua Bay. Once they finished saying good morning to their fishy friends, they laced their running shoes and ran along Alii Drive to the turnaround at Casa de Emdeko before heading back to the finish line in town.

Those who took part in the pea-wee race started out by swimming a nice 200 yards before a one-mile run. The run started from the banyan tree near Kailua Pier, and athletes went along Alii Drive until Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. before running back to the finish line.

Tommy Vonach finished first with an outstanding time of 37 minutes, 51 seconds. Don Baldasari placed second with a time of 41:25. Chris Prater claimed third (41:54), and Keoni Smith was just behind to take fourth (42:01).

Hannah Seifert, in 11th overall, took first for the women with a speedy time of 47:17. Cobey Ackerman claimed second at 48:15. Marissa Bryant-Manago (49:34) finished third, and fourth went to Melissa Braswell (50:12).

For the split peas, the team of Leahi and Charlie Camacho finished in first with a combined time of 44:37. Elastic Man and Chico Barrios were close behind to claim second (44:44), and the team of Wonder Woman and Ariana Bahret was third (44:55). Team Under Dog and Alan Ryan took fourth (44:59).

In the pea-wee race, Kanaipono Eckart sprinted into first place with a time of 12:05. Lainey Eckart (finned) was close on his heels to finish second with a time of 12:19. Hana and her dog earned third place (14:02), and Luka Wohl claimed fourth (14:03).

For the pee-wee split peas, was the team of Superman and Maz Musacchia raced into first with a time of 12:12. Wonder Woman and Josiah Kenney claimed second (13:01). The team of Bat Man and Keakoa Pintor earned third (13:09), and fourth went to Kris Richards and JoJo Richards (13:24).

For the swim-only pea-ticipants, Aimee Colman finished first with an amazing time of 13:42. Rick Rubio claimed second (16:41), and third went to Andrew Lane (21:58).

Congratulations to all who participated in this fun community event. You should all be proud of your pea-riffic performances.

Coming up this Saturday is the Run for Hops. The race starts at 7:30 a.m., with the start and finish located at the BMW dealership on Loluku Street in Kailua-Kona. The event will include a 5K run/walk and a 10k run, with a keiki bike rodeo following the races. Late registration will take place prior to the start, but spots in either race are not guaranteed.

On March 17, the Kealakehe Waverider Triathlon Club will host its 5K Leprechaun-a-Thon and Sham Walk at Laaloa Beach Park, commonly known as Magic Sands, at 7 a.m. Do you think you can catch the leprechaun and steal the pot of gold? If so, join in on the fun run to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The event will have aid stations, drawings, refreshments and finisher stickers. The registration fee for this race is only $12.

Hope to see you all out there. Until next time, happy training.
