Thomas, Crnic power HPA past Kealakehe


Junior guard Buck Thomas scored a game-high 18 points, and senior guard Jovan Crnic added 17 as Hawaii Prep defeated Kealakehe 52-49 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys basketball game Thursday in Waimea.

Junior guard Kalan Camero chipped in 10 points for Ka Makani, which improved to 2-2.

Joby Wills led the Waveriders (1-4) with 15 points, while Justin Freddy and Kalani Lewi added 10 apiece.

In the JV game, Kealakehe beat HPA 49-32 behind Blaine Broberg’s nine points. Victor Lee paced Ka Makani with 12 points, and Colin Yates added 10.

Waiakea 64, St. Joseph 25: Kyle Kua-Ramirez scored 12 points, and Owen Sandstrom added 11 to lead the host Warriors (4-1).

Ben Uhlmann and Cole DeSilva scored nine points each to lead the Cardinals (0-5).

Hilo 45, Keaau 30: Senior guard Kian Kurokawa scored a game-high 13 points for the visiting Vikings (5-1).

Senior guard Davin Alviento led the Cougars (3-2) with eight points.

In the JV game, Hilo beat Keaau 44-29, with Grant Kunihiro and Dane Foster scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Vikings. Jesse Bossy paced the Cougars with eight points.

Kamehameha-Hawaii 48, Ka‘u 46: Bayley Manliguis and Pukana Vincent scored nine points each to help the Warriors hold off the Trojans at Koaia Gym.

Roydon Esperon scored 18 points and Jensen Cadaroma added 12 for the Trojans.

In the JV game, Kamehameha defeated Ka‘u 55-35 behind Dayson Alip’s 13 points. Franklin Oreino and Kaimanu Medeiros Dancel had nine points each for the Trojans.
