Konawaena runs past Kealakehe

Kenan Gaspar scored 17 points, and Brenton Shropshire added 13, leading Konawaena to a 48-34 win over Kealakehe Thursday in the first round of the Konawaena boys basketball preseason tournament.

With guards Gaspar and Jonah Bredeson getting into the passing lanes and point guard Brandon Awa applying solid on-the-ball pressure, Konawaena coach Donny Awa said, the Wildcats scored their fair share of fast-break points.

“A lot of it came off transition,” said Donny Awa, who also commended Shropshire for his work on the boards. “Our defense created some turnovers that led to some easy baskets.”

Senior guard Deion Utrera scored a team-high seven points for the Waveriders.
