Konawaena runs away from Honokaa


Konawaena improved to 6-0 on the season with a 63-31 win over Honokaa on Monday night in Kealakekua in Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys basketball play.

Trevor Tanaka led the Division I Wildcats with 15 points, Nick Mims followed with 14 points of his own, and Kenan Gaspar scored 13 points.

Keanu Freitas led Division II Honokaa with eight points.

Konawaena won the JV game 33-32 on Kevin Medeiros’ game-winner at the buzzer.

Hawaii Prep 73, Laupahoehoe 31: Junior Buck Thomas scored a game-high 22 points, and senior Juan Yarawamai added 17 as Division II Ka Makani won their third straight game.

Junior Kenji Sinson had 13 points for HPA (4-2).

Senior Keanu Domingo led the Seasiders (0-7) with 10 points, and junior Ronnie Domingo and freshman Kysen Datuin posted seven points apiece.

Pahoa 51, Ka‘u 26: At Pahoa, senior guard Nick Fisher scored 17 points to lead the Daggers (3-3) in a Division II game.

Kihei Serrao scored 12 points to lead the Trojans (1-6).

Pahoa won the JV game 52-31.

Waiakea 55, Hilo 45: Dillon Rellez led the homestanding Warriors (6-1) with 19 points. Lucas St. George added 13, and Maikai Gahan had 11.

Waiakaea won the JV game 34-29.
