HPA edges Kealakehe in 2OT


Senior guard Jovan Crnic scored a game-high 28 points as Hawaii Prep outlasted Kealakehe 55-54 in double overtime on the road Wednesday in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys basketball game.

With its victory, HPA (6-3) moved into a first-place tie with Kohala atop the BIIF Division II standings.

Senior guard Deion Utrera scored 26 points for Division I Kealakehe (3-7).

Konawaena 86, Laupahoehoe 20: Brenton Shropshire scored 12 points, and Brandon Awa and Chase Takaki each added 10 as the Wildcats (9-0) won on the road.

Kysen Datuin led the Seasiders (0-10) with 10 points.

Kamehameha-Hawaii 68, Ka’u 53: Shaun Kagawa scored a game-high 20 points for Kamehameha, which improved to 8-3.
Royden Esperon tallied 15 points for Ka’u, which dropped to 2-8.
In the JV game, Chance Emmsley-Ah Yee scored 18 points to lead Ka’u to a 53-41 victory.
